Tom Blomqvist ready for revered Nürburgring 24 Hours

Tom Blomqvist will make his fifth appearance at the revered Nürburgring 24 Hours this weekend, contesting the renowned endurance race with ROWE Racing.

Fresh from his debut at last weekend’s 24 Hours of Le Mans, Tom will take charge of the team’s #98 BMW M6 GT3 entry alongside Marco Wittmann, Lucas Auer and Philipp Eng in the SP9 class.

Well-versed at the ‘Green Hell’, Tom claimed a third-place podium finish at the Nürburgring Nordschleife during last year’s qualification race as well as several podiums in the VLN series - a second-place podium in 2018 and two third-place finishes in 2016 and 2019.

With the date shifted from May to September in response to the coronavirus pandemic, the race will feature a new dynamic as more of the 24-hour marathon will run under darkness - placing more emphasis on night time preparation.

“I’m looking forward to getting the weekend underway,” Tom said. “No two laps around the Nordschleife are the same and it’s a thrill to drive every time. I’m feeling confident heading into the race, I’ve had some good success here in the past and so has the team which puts us in a strong position as we get started.”

The weekend begins today with the opening two qualifying sessions - the first taking place this afternoon from 12:30 local time followed by the second session later this evening at 20:30 local time. The third qualifying session begins at 13:25 on Friday afternoon before the two Top Qualifying sessions from 17:50.

Following a short warm-up at 11:15 on Saturday morning, the race itself is scheduled to begin 15:30 local time on Saturday afternoon.
