MB Partners are delighted to announce that leading sportscar and endurance driver, Tom Blomqvist, will line up with Meyer Shank Racing for a full-season assault on the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in 2022.
The announcement comes fresh from an excellent 2021 campaign for Tom - with success in the FIA World Endurance Championship, where Tom claimed second place in the LMP2 category with five podiums from six races, including second place at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and numerous points and Super Pole appearances in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship with the NIO 333 FE Team.
The 27-year-old prepares to return to IMSA competition for the first time since 2019, partnering with Oliver Jarvis at the wheel of the team’s #60 Acura ARX-05 DPi.
Tom brings a wealth of sportscar experience to the team, boasting overall victory at the 2018 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps. The Brit also enjoyed success in DTM with a victory and five podium finishes to his name. He has also made appearances in the Blancpain GT Endurance Cup, Asian Le Mans Series, FIA GT World Cup & Intercontinental GT Challenge.
Tom is no stranger to IMSA as he made his debut in the series at the 2018 running of the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen before a full-time campaign in the GLTM category in 2019.
The twelve-round campaign will begin in January with the revered Rolex 24 at Daytona before the 12 Hours of Sebring in March. Further highlights include the Grand Prix of Long Beach, Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen and the Motul Petit Le Mans to end the season in October.
“I’m absolutely thrilled to be joining Meyer Shank Racing for the 2022 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship,” Tom said. “MSR has proven itself as one of the top race teams in the US, and in the Acura DPi I’m fully confident that we have a fantastic foundation for success next year.
“I have previous experience of racing in the States from 2019, and in prototypes from this year in the WEC, so I’m hoping to utilize that experience so we can hit the ground running next year!”
