The ABB Formula E World Championship returns to the United States this weekend as Tom Blomqvist prepares for the New York City E-Prix.
The E-Prix will mark Tom’s first appearance at the Brooklyn Street Circuit, whilst the series returns exactly two years after it’s last visit.
Last time out in Puebla, Tom and the NIO 333 team enjoyed a top-ten qualifying performance and are hopeful of another strong showing this time around.
A far cry from the permanent layout of Puebla, the Brooklyn Street Circuit sees a return to Formula E’s more traditional street circuit setting. The 2.32km circuit lies in the heart of Brooklyn’s Red Hook neighbourhood, winding its way around the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal.
The circuit’s 14 corners combine to make up a tight and technical challenge for drivers coupled with a fast, sweeping left-hander to close the lap - making qualifying all the more important.
“Personally, I think it’s great we’re able to race in New York,” Tom said. “It’s such an iconic city. I have never raced there so it will be a first for me. The circuit is a proper street circuit with its own intricacies; also it tends to be hot at this time of year, so that will throw us teams another curveball to deal with. I’m excited! I feel like we made good progress last time out and hope to continue that in Brooklyn.”
Formula E’s fifth double-header weekend of 2021 begins on Saturday with two Free Practice sessions at 08:00 ET (13:00 BST) and 10:15 (15:15). Qualifying for Round 10 follows at 12:30 (17:30) with the race at 16:30 (21:30).
Sunday sees an earlier start to the track action with the third and final Free Practice session at 07:15 (12:15) and Qualifying at 09:30 (14:30). The green flag for Round 11 of the championship will fly at 13:30 (18:30).
In the UK, viewers can access live coverage throughout the weekend with every practice session live on the Formula E website or YouTube channel. Qualifying and both races will then be live on Eurosport 2, BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport website.
FANBOOST voting opens from 13:00 BST on Wednesday 7th July and you can pledge your support for Tom by voting for him to receive an extra power boost here.
