Tom has enjoyed a positive season in the FIA World Endurance Championship so far with three top-five LMP2 class results to his name from three races, including two podium finishes at Spa-Francorchamps and Portimão.
Heading to legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans, Tom and his #28 JOTA team mates of Sean Gelael and Stoffel Vandoorne are confident of another strong showing and will be giving it their all throughout the weekend to take the ultimate prize.
The 8.467-mile Circuit de la Sarthe is the ultimate test of a driver's skill and talent, with 38 corners to contend with. Reaching speeds of more than 200mph, the team will lap the full near-nine mile circuit in less than three-and-a-half minutes.
Tom returns to Le Mans for the second time in his career, following his appearance in a Ferrari 488 GTE Evo in the LMGTE Am category at last year’s event.
The demands of the 24 hour race are well-documented with plenty of challenges to tackle. From navigating traffic to managing tyres, fuel and strategy - racing at Le Mans is no easy feat.
Drawing on his experience of last year’s event, Tom is excited to step into the car and get out on track.
“This is the race we’ve all been waiting for,” Tom said. “I loved every second of it when I made my debut here last year and I can’t wait to step up another level this year. We’ve had a really strong year so far as a team with two podiums from three races and we’re quietly confident about our chances here. Obviously nothing is guaranteed at Le Mans so we’ve got to make sure we stay focused and prepare as much as we can. Between Sean, Stoffel and myself, I’m confident we can put on a strong performance and score a result to be proud of.”
Taking to the track on Wednesday, Tom and the team will get the weekend underway with Free Practice at 14:00 local time (13:00 BST). Qualifying then follows on Wednesday evening at 19:00 (18:00) before a second Free Practice session at 22:00 (21:00).
Continuing on Thursday, they’ll take to the track for a third Free Practice at 14:00 (13:00). Following that, the Hyperpole session will return to determine the final starting order for the race at 21:00 (20:00) followed by a final Free Practice session at 22:00 (21:00).
Saturday then heralds race day with the Warm Up at 11:30 (10:30) before the race itself gets underway at 16:00 (15:00) on Saturday afternoon.
