Blomqvist takes pole and second in thrilling Portimão fightback

‍8 HOURS OF PORTIMÃO - HIGHLIGHTS & FACTS

• Tom and the #28 JOTA team travelled to Portugal for the 8 Hours of Portimão
• On Saturday evening, Tom took the car to a brilliant pole position in the LMP2 class
• The Brit also started the race on Sunday but was spun around on the opening lap
• Despite being 50 seconds behind after the spin, Tom and the team fought valiantly to bring themselves back into contention
• They were then firmly in the fight for the win with the sister #38 JOTA
• An exhilarating finish saw the #28 eventually take the chequered flag in second place
• With back-to-back podiums to start the 2021 season, the team head to Monza third in the championship standings with 43 points

“We experienced every emotion possible in that race I think! All weekend the car was fantastic, I could really extract everything out of it. I felt really confident heading into qualifying that we could get the pole so I was delighted with my performance.

“The start of the race obviously didn’t go according to plan being spun around but we knew it was a long race and we had the performance so the key was to just knuckle down, run to our plan and make the gains from there. The team did a fantastic job with the strategy and that really helped bring us back into contention as the three of us just kept pushing to get back into the lead. It was a bittersweet finish, leading with five minutes to go then just miss out but the #38 guys did a brilliant job so huge congratulations to them and all of the team for the 1-2 finish. A big thanks as always to the team for their hard work and to Sean and Stoffel, they were fantastic all weekend.”
