Blomqvist set for title fight in Bahrain double-header

Tom Blomqvist heads to Bahrain for the final two races of the 2021 FIA World Endurance Championship this week and holds a slender lead in the LMP2 title fight.

Racing alongside Sean Gelael and Stoffel Vandoorne in the #28 Jota Sport, the team currently sits atop of the championship standings on 89 points, just one point ahead of Team WRT and eight points ahead of their sister #38 Jota Sport. With 65 points still on offer at the 6 and 8 hour races in Bahrain, everything is still all to play for in the championship fight.

Three podium finishes has rewarded the team with their championship advantage, including second place at the illustrious 24 Hours of Le Mans - finishing just 0.727-seconds behind the race winners in a thrilling finish.

The 5.412km Bahrain International Circuit has become a staple of the WEC calendar in recent years. Hosting two events in the 2019-20 season, the circuit doubles up once again 2021 to bring the season to a close.

“We are all really excited for the final races of the 2021 season and we go there with one goal and that is to be crowned champions. Everyone in the team has been working really hard since Le Mans to make sure we arrive in Bahrain as sharp as possible and ready to hit the ground running. Whatever happens, I’m extremely proud of the team and thankful for all of their efforts this season!”
