Tom Blomqvist is set to make his debut at the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans this weekend - as he contests the GTE Am class with HubAuto Racing.
Selected by the team for his wealth of GT knowledge - with prior experience in the World Endurance Championship, GT World Challenge series and victory at the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps in 2018 - Tom will co-drive the #72 HubAuto Racing Ferrari 488 GTE along with Marcos Gomes and team owner Morris Chen.
It will be the team’s first-ever appearance at the event, having gained automatic entry for the race following their GT title win in the 2019-20 Asian Le Mans Series.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the race was rescheduled to September from it’s traditional June date and will provide a new challenge with nearly half the race expected to be run in complete darkness.
Historically, the Ferrari 488 GTE has performed well at the event, with the car winning the GTE Pro category in 2019 and finishing in second and third places in the GTE Am class in the same year.
“It’s been a long wait so it’s great that we’re finally here,” Tom said. “Le Mans has been a dream of mine for a very long time, it’s one of the biggest sporting events on the calendar so I’m thrilled to be making my debut this weekend. As a team, we’re all looking forward to it and are very excited to get behind the wheel.”
Running to a revised schedule, Tom and the HubAuto Racing team will make use of three practice sessions and qualifying on Thursday, totalling nearly 11 hours of track time. A further practice session and the brand-new Hyperpole qualifying session will take place on Friday. Following that, the race itself will get underway on Saturday afternoon, with the green flag flying at 14:30 (local time).
