Blomqvist heads to Puebla as Formula E returns to Mexico

Rounds eight and nine of the 2021 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship see Tom Blomqvist and the NIO 333 FE team travel to Puebla, Mexico as the series returns to Latin America for the first time since February 2020.

Fresh from his podium-scoring performance in FIA WEC, Tom arrives in Puebla confident of a good result.

The series visits the Autodromo Miguel E. Abed circuit for the very first time, offering a brand-new challenge for the teams and drivers to tackle. Situated some 2,135 metres above sea level, the 2.980km circuit - which has hosted the NASCAR Mexico series and FIA WTCC - comprises a technical infield section of 15 corners coupled with an oval banking.

The circuit will also feature a brand-new, bespoke attack mode activation zone with drivers taking a rallycross-style ‘joker lap’ route through turn eight, placing a greater emphasis on strategy throughout the two races.

Like the last round in Monaco, fans will also fill the grandstands with 10,000 spectators cheering the drivers on each day.

The double-header weekend begins on Saturday with the opening Free Practice session at 08:00 local time (14:00 BST). The second Free Practice session follows at 10:15 (16:15) with qualifying at 12:00 (18:00). Round eight of the championship will then begin at 16:00 (22:00). Returning on Sunday, a further Free Practice session will start the day at 09:15 (15:15), followed by qualifying and round nine at 12:00 (18:00) and 16:00 (22:00) once again.

Viewers in the UK can tune into live coverage across the weekend on BBC Sport, BBC iPlayer and Eurosport 2.

“We’ve had a bit of a break in travelling which has enabled us to reflect on the first few races and home in on some of the improvements we needed to address," Tom said. "It'll be great to get the second half of the season underway in Puebla. It’s not a typical Formula E track, with more of a Valencia style permanent layout, and its own unique qualities that we’ve been looking closely at as a team. I know everyone at NIO 333 is super motivated and has been working hard during the past few weeks, so hopefully we can have a strong weekend, as always aim high and hopefully get some points. I’m really looking forward to getting the season restarted – it’s going to come thick and fast from now.”
