Blomqvist excited for Formula E season-opener

Tom Blomqvist is excited to get the 2020-21 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship underway, which begins with a double-header in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia this weekend.

The double-header will see Tom make his eagerly-anticipated return to Formula E with NIO 333 FE Team and see the series stage its first-ever night race.

Arriving fresh from his winning weekend at the Asian Le Mans Series finale in Abu Dhabi, where the 27-year-old claimed victory in both races, Tom is keen to get started and hit the track for the opening practice session.

After a delayed start, the championship begins in earnest this weekend with two races around the floodlit scenes of the At-Turaif UNESCO World Heritage site. The 2.49km circuit offers a fast and flowing challenge for drivers.

The first Free Practice session takes place on Thursday afternoon at 18:15 local time (15:15 GMT). The action continues on Friday with the second Free Practice session at 14:00 local time (11:00 GMT) followed by Qualifying at 16:00 (13:00 GMT). The opening race of the season is scheduled for 20:00 local time (17:00 GMT) on Friday evening.

Returning on Saturday, the teams will make use of a third and final Free Practice session at 13:45 (10:45 GMT) before Qualifying for Round Two at 16:00 (13:00 GMT). The second race will then take place at 20:00 (17:00 GMT) once again to close out the weekend.

You can tune in to live coverage across the weekend with Qualifying and the E-Prix set to be streamed live across the BBC - on BBC iPlayer, the BBC Sport website and the BBC Red Button.

“It’s great to finally be here for the start of the season,” Tom said. “It’s been a long wait but we’re ready to get started and can’t wait for the challenge ahead of us. Testing in Valencia feels like a long time ago so I’m looking forward to getting back in the car, particularly for Formula E’s first-ever night race. It’s going to be a busy weekend with two races but it will also be really exciting as we all know just how thrilling these races can be.”
